The ABSA-DOVENEST Last Expense cover is a group last-respect package that pays for funeral expenses arising from natural or accidental death in the insured group.

There are seven options offered for choice. Under any option, the policy pays the prescribed sum assured, God forbid up to five deaths per family per year, upon death of the insured and named dependents.

Within 48 working hours after receipt and admission of complete and valid claim documentation.

Young people aged 21 to 30 years are given cover on a stand-alone basis for discounted premium. This includes orphans and those removed from a scheme as dependents after turning 25 years.

Corporate requirements and leaders' role:

  • Registration certificate copy.
  • Banking details where available and applicable.
  • Excel sheet on the prescribed template summarizing all members by group.

Members should provide clear copies of mandatory documents:

  • Complete proposal form for each member.
  • Member's ID or valid Kenyan passport.
  • Member's KRA PIN.
  • Member spouse's ID or valid passport.
  • ID or valid passport of each member's biological parents and parent/in-laws.
  • Children's birth certificate, notification, passport, or ID for children over 18 years.
  • Affidavit of support for any non-biological child under 25 years.

Yes. The maximum benefit payable for the death of a child aged less than 10 years is Kshs 100,000 according to Kenyan law, Insurance Act, CAP 487, Section 96(1), (2).

Yes. One session per family, maximum two per year, is provided by professional counselors on death of a nuclear family member.

The policy remains active with the spouse, principal's father, mother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, or grown-up child taking over as principal member in that order, as long as the policy is paid and active.

Yes, different options can be taken by members of the group, but more than 50% will be on a uniform limit.

Yes. A member can add, delete, or change dependent details by filling out and signing the appropriate forms. Examples include marriage, adding spouse and parent-in-law details, or childbirth. Additional members will be subject to the applicable waiting period from the date of joining.

Years are in age-next-birthday format.

  • Children: 4 months to 25 years.
  • Parents and parents-in-law: 31 to 85 years.
  • Principal and spouse: 19 to 70 years.
  • There is no maximum or exit age, subject to continuous cover renewal.

The cover starts when the group reaches a minimum of 10 principal members. Others joining later will renew the following year together on the same date.

Yes. There is a 1-month waiting period for the nucleus family and 3 months for parents and parents-in-law from the date of submission and payment. On renewal, the full premium should be paid within 30 days of cover renewal.

No. The policy can pay up to five claims without reinstatement per family per year. This is the maximum possible number of claims per family per year.

Claims are paid within 48 working hours after receipt and admission of complete and valid claim documentation. Eligible claimant payees include the principal, spouse, child aged 18 years or above, parent, welfare group, or legal administrator respectively.

  1. Report the death to the welfare administrator.
  2. Download or collect the claim form from your administrator or DoveNest.
  3. File notification of death through a duly filled claim form.
  4. Get welfare/group leader verification signature, stamp, and statement on the form.
  5. Attach certified or stamped burial permit from issuing hospital, or death certificate.
  6. Attach deceased identification document such as ID, birth certificate, or passport.
  7. Attach national ID or passport of the member/claimant.
  8. Attach proof of bank details of claimant.
  9. Attach police abstract for accidental or crime-related deaths.
  10. Email complete claim papers to info@dovenestinsurance.com and copy the welfare email.
  11. Provide place and time for counselling therapy session for nuclear family loss.

Risks arising directly or indirectly from the following events are excluded:

  1. Breach of criminal law by the insured, anyone acting on their behalf, or anyone claiming a benefit under the policy.
  2. Self-inflicted injury or attempted suicide within the waiting period or reinstatement of the policy.
  3. Driving a motor vehicle while over the legal alcohol limit.
  4. Intake of illegal drugs or alcohol.
  5. Active and willful participation in war, civil commotion, riot, terrorist activity, or rebellion.
  6. Radioactivity or nuclear explosion.

The policy does not exclude Political Violence and Terrorism Extension, AIDS/HIV, and suicide, subject to applicable waiting periods.

Members receive annual certificates showing covered persons, premiums paid, and a cover summary. The master policy is issued to the insurance broker.

Yes. One can take as many covers as possible until the insurer's maximum limit of Kes 1 million under Absa Life Assurance Kenya. The cover is not subject to the indemnity principle of insurance. It pays the promised amount in exchange for a premium on the death of the member or named and admitted dependent during the one-year period.

It will also pay for any or all parents named multiple times by siblings, subject to Kes 1 million.
